Speeding

Driving above the speed limit is an offence which carries with it a minimum of 3 points and a maximum of 6 points to be endorsed upon your licence. Alternatively, if your speed is well above the limit, you may be disqualified from driving for a period.

Magistrates have guidelines which will give them a starting point for sentence, and give them a list of aggravating and mitigating features which will affect the final penalty.

We can give you helpful advice as to what to expect in court, and represent you if you wish. We are able to advise as to whether there are special reasons for not endorsing your licence, or a defence to the charge.

We can also advise as to whether there is still a chance for a fixed penalty ticket or a speed awareness course to be offered.

We can also advise as to whether you can still keep your licence if you hit the dreaded 12 points, and represent you in the proceedings.

To prove speeding the police have to have corroboration, whether by the opinion of a colleague, (very rare) an approved device, or, by gatso, the lines on the road. We can advise as to the strength of evidence against you.
